Brett Armstrong
Brett has been involved in Triathlon since he began competing in the late 80's. He originally started out playing soccer as a youth before transferring his energy to cross country and track running during his high school years. After school the distances of running lengthened to 10 km’s, half marathons and eventually full marathons. Looking for a new challenge he completed his first ever multisport event in 1989. This was done on a borrowed bike in what was then called Cyruthon (cycle and run). Enjoying the cross training, swimming was soon added and his first sprint and Olympic triathlons followed in quick succession. That same year as a spectator in Penticton he decided to jump into the world of Ironman and completed his first in 1990. Since those early days Brett has returned to Penticton 7 times and has qualified and competed at Kona. Consistently improving times saw him dip under the 10 hour mark in Penticton. Recently Brett has focused on shorter distances with outstanding results including 5th place over all at both Vancouver and Cultus Lake Olympic distances, 4th at the Delta Sprint and 1st over all at the Walnut Grove Sprint. Perhaps his best performance in recent years was his 15th place over all at the Canadian National Championships in Kelowna. For Brett Triathlon is not just a sport but a way of life.
Brett began coaching 5 years ago firstly though youth soccer before switching to triathlon. In September of 2009 Brett joined forces with Pacific Rim Multisport to lend his considerable experience to the group and is coaching athletes of all levels.
